Welcome, David Drew!

We are excited to announce our newest team member, David Drew. David is joining GiveSignup as a Technical Customer Service Representative. He will primarily be focused on providing support for timers using RaceDay Scoring as well as runner tracking. To welcome Drew to our team and to give him the opportunity to tell his story, we spent time learning more about him both personally and professionally. Read on to get to know Drew!

Where are you from, and where do you currently reside?

I grew up in Elkhart, Indiana, which is about 20 minutes east of Notre Dame. My wife and I currently live in Elkhart again after living down near Indianapolis for four years.

Please tell us a little more about your background.

I spent three years studying Philosophy at Bethel University and Indiana University – Bloomington. During this time, I began contracting with End Result (ERC) out of Carmel, Indiana. During the fall of my junior year down at IU, I was told that ERC was looking to hire another Lead Timer, and that, if I was interested, that they would be happy to consider me for that position. I decided that if I was offered the job, I would stop going to college and start a career as a timer.

It was a fantastic opportunity for me. At that point, End Result timed hundreds of thousands of people a year. I was able to jump right into the deep end of being a Race Timer, gaining experience at a rate that wouldn’t have been possible without the reputation that ERC had garnered over the years. Though we were busy with races most weeks, during the slow season, the timers would join the support team for End Result’s registration site, GetMeRegistered. When COVID started and the race industry took a major down turn, I was put on furlough. After some discussion, my wife and I decided it was a good time to move back to northern Indiana, both so that it would be easier if we had children, and so that I could become involved with travel baseball again. Since leaving ERC in the summer of 2020, I’ve continued to time races for them when needed.

In addition to my time at ERC/GMR, I’ve worked in restaurants for a total of seven years, in construction for a year, and in a warehouse for a year. At 29, I feel like I’ve picked up a solid amount of job experience and I’m ready to settle back down into the industry I’ve enjoyed the second most, Endurance Sports. (After all, nothing can beat my first love, baseball 🙂 )

What are you most looking forward to in joining the GiveSignup | RunSignup team?

From the conversations that happened during my interviews, I’m looking forward to the stability. Outside of End Result, every place I’ve worked at has had a constant churn of employees. Being able to form long lasting workplace relationships, even remotely, is something that I value.

Tell us about your hobbies and interests, and what you like to do for fun outside of work.

As mentioned above, my first love is baseball. My family founded a travel baseball team, the Elkhart Titans, in 2004. I both coach a team and run the organization now. It takes up much of my free time, even during the winter! In my remaining free time, I play video and board games with friends, read, and, during the appropriate seasons, I also enjoy hunting.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

My future wife and I (before we were dating) drove 3 hours, one way, to get my first cat.
