Fundraising Events (Ep. 5): Challenges as Fundraisers

Episode 5 of the Fundraising Events Podcast features Zack Loggins of Runners Fit Race Works. The full-service timing and event productions company works primarily with nonprofits to create premium experiences for nonprofit events. In 2020, they organized a number of virtual challenges to keep nonprofits engaged with their supporters and drive revenue in the absence of in-person races.

Our participants and past participants and friends just loved the concept. It helped them get outside and march towards a finish line just like training for a half marathon or a marathon does.

In this episode, Bryan and Zack dive into:

  • Getting into virtual challenges to extend the virtual race experience
  • Marketing virtual challenges via Facebook Ads, Facebook Groups, and Referral Rewards
  • Using virtual challenges as a source of revenue and donations for nonprofit
  • The future of virtual challenges after 2020.

Gross revenues on the challenges we were partnered with last year raised around $363,000 between registration money and donations. I don’t have direct involvement in all their finances, but I ballparked that around $280,000 was net profit for these nonprofits.Zack Loggins
