Creating an Event with a TBA Date

Posted by

This is a stressful and uncertain time for many, but it will end. In the meantime, your nonprofit can continue planning your events and fundraising, but with some modifications. You can create a ticket event on GiveSignup with a TBA date and time (and location), but still take donations right on your website so that in the meantime, your supporters can still engage with your event and support your nonprofit.

This kind of worldwide crisis is exactly when people want to feel connected to their community and to give to causes that they know are doing good. Giving supporters an outlet to feel like they are enacting change, no matter how small, will empower them in a time when they might be feeling powerless.

How to set up your event as TBA

When you create your ticket event, you can include DATE TBA in the event name. It’s easy to go back and edit your event name at any time in the ticket wizard, so when you finally choose a date, you can remove it.

In the event description, you can include details and special messaging:

Location is optional, so you can choose not to enter one if you are concerned about venue availability:

You can set up your tickets as usual, but don’t select a time or date when you get to Start and End Time on Step 2 of the wizard.

When you create ticket purchase periods in Step 3, set purchases to open at least several weeks in the future. You can go back and change this at any time, so you will be able to adjust as necessary, but do not start selling tickets at this point.

Here’s some example messaging you can customize and use on your website, on social media, or in other communications to your supporters:

  • Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, this event’s date and location are TBA. We hope to be able to hold the event in the late summer or early fall of 2020, but this is dependent on the impact of the virus. In the meantime, we’d like to encourage our supporters to donate to our cause. We need your support more than ever in this uncertain time so we can continue to fulfill our mission. We will be updating this site, as well as our Facebook page, with details about the event as we are able. As always, thank you for your support.
  • We’re excited to hold our event once the COVID-19 outbreak dies down. In the meantime, you can still support us so we can keep fulfilling our mission. Please donate to the Clean Rivers Coalition, which provides education and resources to groups and organizations that are fighting American river pollution across the nation.

Turn on donations for your event website. You can accept both one-time and recurring donations on event websites, and you can leave donations open indefinitely.

In your donation description, you can include custom messaging encouraging supporters to donate:

Cover Pages

Using our Cover Pages, you can create content blocks in seconds with custom messages about the status of your event. Add a donate button and call to action. You could also add buttons with links to places like your nonprofit’s website or your Facebook page.

Other Options: Donation Websites

You can also create a donation website instead of a ticket event, if you’re truly unsure whether you’ll be able to hold your event or if you would prefer to only collect donations. On donation websites you can create donation forms, which are custom focused paths for your donors to use as they make their donations.

Creating a donation website is simple:

Once you’ve completed the wizard, make sure donations are turned on:

You can also customize your donation website and your donation forms however you like.
